...STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WILL IMPACT SAMPSON...SOUTHEASTERN HARNETT...EASTERN CUMBERLAND AND SOUTH CENTRAL JOHNSTON COUNTIES THROUGH 345 PM EDT... At 258 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from Godwin to 15 miles south of Dunn to 10 miles north of Jerome. Movement was east at 20 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include... Clinton, Dunn, Godwin, Roseboro, Stedman, Newton Grove, Wade, Salemburg, Falcon, and Autryville. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Wilson County in central North Carolina... * Until 515 PM EDT. * At 216 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 2 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area which recently received 5 to 7 inches yesterday. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing flash flooding. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Wilson, Elm City, Bailey, Middlesex, Macclesfield, Saratoga, Sims, New Hope, Tar River Reservoir, Willbanks, Buckhorn Reservoir and Emit. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... ...FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH LATE TONIGHT... * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...A portion of central North Carolina, including the following counties, Alamance, Anson, Chatham, Cumberland, Davidson, Durham, Edgecombe, Forsyth, Franklin, Granville, Guilford, Halifax, Harnett, Hoke, Johnston, Lee, Montgomery, Moore, Nash, Orange, Person, Randolph, Richmond, Sampson, Scotland, Stanly, Vance, Wake, Warren, Wayne and Wilson. * WHEN...Through late tonight. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Training and repeating thunderstorms with very heavy rainfall will occur today and tonight. Some areas have had 4+ inches of rainfall already. Additional corridors of 2 to 5 inches of rain may fall today. If training occurs over the same areas that have already had heavy rain or in urban areas, life threatening flash flooding can quickly result.
