...FLOOD WARNING NOW IN EFFECT FROM THIS EVENING TO EARLY WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON... * WHAT...Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast. * WHERE...Deep River at Moncure. * WHEN...From this evening to early Wednesday afternoon. * IMPACTS...At 9.0 feet, Minor flooding begins. Flooding is likely upstream of the gage site along North Plank Road just south of highway 421 in Lee county, and on R Jordan Road north of highway 421 in Chatham county. At the gage site, flooding reaches the base of the river gage housing, but is confined to woods and pasture immediately adjacent to the river. At 14.0 feet, Moderate flooding begins. Upstream of the gage site, North Plank Road in Lee county and R Jordan Road in Chatham County are closed. At the gage site, there is significant flooding of pasture and woods along the river. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 9:15 PM EDT Sunday the stage was 9.5 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 12.8 feet by early Monday afternoon. This forecast approaches the flood of record from Hurricane Fran in 1996. * WHERE...Haw River near Bynum. * WHEN...Until Tuesday evening. * IMPACTS...At 11.0 feet, Minor flooding begins. The river widens up to 400 feet across. It floods pastureland on the right bank and woodlands on the left. At 15.0 feet, Moderate flooding begins. The river widens up to 800 feet across, but flooding remains confined to extensive stretches of woods and pastureland along the river. At 17.0 feet, Major flooding begins. Several homes along the right bank of the river are flooded. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 9:31 PM EDT Sunday the stage was 17.0 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 21.2 feet tomorrow morning. ...STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WILL IMPACT ALAMANCE...PERSON...ORANGE... DURHAM AND NORTHERN CHATHAM COUNTIES THROUGH 1045 PM EDT... At 923 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a band of storms extending from near Roxboro to near Chapel Hill. Movement was curving southwest 15-25 mph. These thunderstorms could produce weak tornadoes, gusty winds, and heavy rain. Some trees are expected to easily fall with the ground heavily saturated. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... Durham, Chapel Hill, Burlington, Graham, Roxboro, Hillsborough, Siler City, Carrboro, Mebane, and Elon. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. Minor flooding is ongoing or may begin shortly in the advisory area. 1 to 4 inches of rain have fallen from west to east across Guilford and Randolph counties in the past 6 hours. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Greensboro, High Point, Asheboro, Randleman, North Carolina Zoo, Thomasville, Kernersville, Seagrove, and McLeansville. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Between 2 and 6 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is already occurring. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - The remnants of Tropical Depression Chantal will bring widespread showers and embedded storms across central North Carolina through early Monday.
