...INCREASED FIRE DANGER 1100 AM THROUGH 800 PM TODAY FOR THE WESTERN PIEDMONT AND SANDHILLS... The combination of extremely dry fuels, very warm temperatures, gusty southwest winds, and reduced relative humidity will lead to an increased risk of wildfires again today. Most dry grasses, dead leaves, and other tree litter could easily ignite and spread fire quickly. A statewide burn ban issued by the North Carolina Forest Service is currently in place. Open burning of any kind is illegal.
