At 553 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a cluster of strong thunderstorms along a line extending from 8 miles east of Rougemont to 6 miles southwest of Butner to 7 miles west of Cary. Movement was east at 25 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... Raleigh, Durham, Cary, Henderson, Creedmoor, Louisburg, Wake Forest, Garner, Clayton, and Butner. This includes the following highways... Interstate 85 between Mile Markers 175 and 203. Interstate 40 between Mile Markers 273 and 311. Interstate 440 between Mile Markers 1 and 16. Interstate 540 between Mile Markers 0 and 24. For the second Heat Advisory, heat index values up to 105 expected. * WHERE...The Triangle, southern Piedmont, Sandhills, and Coastal Plain of central North Carolina. * WHEN...For the first Heat Advisory, until 8 PM EDT this evening. For the second Heat Advisory, from 11 AM to 8 PM EDT Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.
