This product covers portions of southwest Alabama...northwest Florida...south central Alabama...and inland southeast Mississippi. **ISAIAS MOVING OVER THE WESTERN FLORIDA PANHANDLE INTO SOUTH CENTRAL ALABAMA** NEW INFORMATION --------------- * CHANGES TO WATCHES AND WARNINGS: - None * CURRENT WATCHES AND WARNINGS: - A Storm Surge Warning and Hurricane Warning are in effect for Baldwin Central, Baldwin Coastal, Escambia Coastal, Mobile Central, Mobile Coastal, Okaloosa Coastal, and Santa Rosa Coastal - A Hurricane Warning is in effect for Baldwin Inland, Butler, Conecuh, Covington, Crenshaw, Escambia, Escambia Inland, Mobile Inland, Monroe, Okaloosa Inland, and Santa Rosa Inland - A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Choctaw, Clarke, George, Greene, Perry, Stone, Washington, Wayne, and Wilcox * STORM INFORMATION: - About 100 miles east of Mobile AL or about 50 miles east-northeast of Pensacola FL - 30.8N 86.5W - Storm Intensity 90 mph - Movement North or 5 degrees at 20 mph SITUATION OVERVIEW ------------------ Hurricane Isaias with winds of 90 mph will continue to move north at near 20 mph into south central Alabama. Significant wind impacts and life threatening storm surge will remain through late tonight. The strongest winds will occur near and just to the east of the center, and storm surge inundation of 5 to 7 feet above normally dry ground will persist along the coast of the western Florida panhandle. Potential impacts from these winds include numerous downed trees and power lines, significant power outages, and some roof damage. Additional rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches with localized amounts of 6 inches are possible east of the Alabama River. Areas of flooding are likely if the higher amounts are realized, with considerable impacts possible. POTENTIAL IMPACTS ----------------- * WIND: Protect against life-threatening wind having possible devastating impacts across the western Florida Panhandle and south central Alabama. Potential impacts in this area include: - Structural damage to sturdy buildings, some with complete roof and wall failures. Complete destruction of mobile homes. Damage greatly accentuated by large airborne projectiles. Locations may be uninhabitable for weeks or months. - Numerous large trees snapped or uprooted along with fences and roadway signs blown over. - Many roads impassable from large debris, and more within urban or heavily wooded places. - Widespread power and communications outages. Also, protect against life-threatening wind having possible limited to extensive impacts across inland southeast Mississippi and southwest Alabama. * SURGE: Protect against life-threatening surge having possible significant impacts across the coastal portions of the western Florida panhandle and Alabama. Potential impacts in this area include: - Areas of inundation with storm surge flooding accentuated by waves. Damage to several buildings, mainly near the coast. - Sections of near-shore escape routes and secondary roads become weakened or washed out, especially in usually vulnerable low spots. - Major beach erosion with heavy surf breaching dunes. Strong and numerous rip currents. - Moderate damage to marinas, docks, boardwalks, and piers. Several small craft broken away from moorings, especially in unprotected anchorages. * FLOODING RAIN: Protect against life-threatening rainfall flooding having possible extensive impacts across south central Alabama and the western Florida panhandle. Potential impacts include: - Major rainfall flooding may prompt many evacuations and rescues. - Rivers and tributaries may rapidly overflow their banks in multiple places. Small streams, creeks, canals, and ditches may become dangerous rivers. Flood control systems and barriers may become stressed. - Flood waters can enter many structures within multiple communities, some structures becoming uninhabitable or washed away. Many places where flood waters may cover escape routes. Streets and parking lots become rivers of moving water with underpasses submerged. Driving conditions become dangerous. Many road and bridge closures with some weakened or washed out. Protect against dangerous rainfall flooding having possible limited to significant impacts across interior southeast Mississippi. * TORNADOES: Little to no impacts are anticipated at this time across the area. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS ---------------------------------- * EVACUATIONS: Follow the advice of local officials. * OTHER PREPAREDNESS INFORMATION: It is important to remain calm, informed, and focused during an emergency. Be patient and helpful with those you encounter. Rapidly rising flood waters are deadly. If you are in a flood-prone area, consider moving to higher ground. Never drive through a flooded roadway. Remember, turn around don't drown! If in a place that is vulnerable to high wind, such as near large trees, a manufactured home, upper floors of a high-rise building, or on a boat, consider moving to a safer shelter before the onset of strong winds or flooding. Closely monitor weather.gov, NOAA Weather radio or local news outlets for official storm information. Be ready to adapt to possible changes to the forecast. ...TROPICAL STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT... * LOCATIONS AFFECTED - Beaumont - New Augusta - Richton * WIND - LATEST LOCAL FORECAST: Below tropical storm force wind - Peak Wind Forecast: 10-20 mph with gusts to 40 mph - THREAT TO LIFE AND PROPERTY THAT INCLUDES TYPICAL FORECAST UNCERTAINTY IN TRACK, SIZE AND INTENSITY: Wind less than 39 mph - The wind threat has remained nearly steady from the previous assessment. - PLAN: The sustained wind should remain less than tropical storm force. Conditions may still be gusty. - PREPARE: Listen for any instructions from local officials. - ACT: Ensure emergency readiness should the forecast change. - REALIZED IMPACTS: Being Assessed - Little to no additional wind impacts expected.
