Special Weather Statement
Issued: 9:23 AM May. 10, 2025 – National Weather Service
...ELEVATED FIRE DANGER THIS AFTERNOON DUE TO LOW HUMIDITY AND BREEZY WINDS FOR PARTS OF EAST CENTRAL AND SOUTHEAST SOUTH DAKOTA AND SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA... Warm and very dry conditions are expected this afternoon, with humidity levels as low as 15 to 25 percent. Coupled with southeast to south winds gusting up to 20 to 25 mph, fire danger conditions will be elevated and may reach near critical levels. Fire danger will be greatest in localized areas where more prevalent dry or dormant grasses are still receptive to fire starts and spread. Winds will remain breezy or even increase further through the overnight and humidity levels will be slow to recover, so fire danger may remain elevated during the nighttime hours. Check with local officials before attempting any outdoor burning today. Do not leave open fires unattended. Please be sure that your campfire is completely out.
