For the Extreme Cold Warning, dangerously cold wind chills from 40 below to 45 below expected. * WHERE...In Minnesota, Big Stone and Traverse Counties. In South Dakota, Campbell, Edmunds, McPherson, Walworth, Brown, Day, Marshall, and Roberts Counties. * WHEN...For the Cold Weather Advisory, until 6 PM CST this evening. For the Extreme Cold Warning, from 6 PM this evening to 3 PM CST Friday. * IMPACTS...The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 45 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes. Very cold temperatures can lead to hypothermia with prolonged exposure. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside. Keep pets indoors as much as possible. Make sure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, and unfrozen water. Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors.
