...FLOOD WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 115 PM CDT THIS AFTERNOON... ...REPLACES FLOOD ADVISORY... * WHAT...Urban area and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is occurring. * WHERE...In Minnesota, in north central Minnesota, Itasca County. In northeast Minnesota, St. Louis County. * WHEN...Until 115 PM CDT Wednesday. * IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. It will take several hours for all the water from these storms to work through local drainage systems in urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 1029 AM CDT Wednesday, the public reported flooding in the warned area. Flooding is already occurring. Between 2 and 5 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Hibbing, Grand Rapids, Chisholm, Mountain Iron, Coleraine, Keewatin, Buhl, Nashwauk, Cherry, Taconite, Pengilly, Hill Annex Mine State Park, McCarthy Beach State Park, Trout Lake Near Bovey, Perch Lake, Bovey, Marble, Hart Lake, Calumet and Swan Lake. - Flood safety information can be found at www.weather.gov/safety/flood. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and to the National Weather Service in Duluth when you can do so safely. ...FLOOD ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 115 PM CDT THIS AFTERNOON... * WHAT...Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues. * WHERE...In Minnesota, Cass and Itasca Counties. * WHEN...Until 115 PM CDT Wednesday. * IMPACTS...Overflowing poor drainage areas. Ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 951 AM CDT Wednesday, trained weather spotters reported heavy rain in the advisory area due to thunderstorms. This is causing urban and small stream flooding. Overflowing poor drainage areas have already caused minor flooding in the advisory area. Between 2 and 5 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Grand Rapids, Walker, Cohasset, Coleraine, Deer River, Marcell, Bena, Federal Dam, Squaw Lake, Zemple, Boy River, Ball Club, Lake Winnibigoshish, Inger, Days High Landing, Schoolcraft State Park, Leech Lake, Pokegama Dam, Pokegama Lake and Gunn. - Flood safety information can be found at www.weather.gov/safety/flood. ...FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH THURSDAY MORNING... * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...In Minnesota, Crow Wing, northern Aitkin, Itasca, Cass, Cook, Lake and central and northern St. Louis Counties. This includes the Tribal Lands of the Grand Portage Reservation, the Mille Lacs Band, Big Sandy Lake area and the Bois Forte Band, Lake Vermilion, Nett Lake and, Deer Creek areas. Other locations including Voyageurs National Park. The entire Boundary Waters is also included. * WHEN...Through Thursday morning. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Multiple rounds of heavy rainfall are forecast through late Wednesday night. This heavy rainfall may fall on top of already saturated soils from other recent heavy rainfall and lead to excessive runoff.
