...AIR QUALITY ADVISORY FOR TUESDAY JUNE 3... The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality has extended the Air Quality Advisory through Tuesday June 3, for elevated levels of fine particulates (PM2.5). Pollutants are expected to be in the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups range. The alert is in effect for the following Michigan Counties, Menominee, Keweenaw, Dickinson, Iron, Marquette, Baraga, Southern Schoolcraft, Northern Houghton, Delta, Ontonagon, Gogebic, Luce, Alger, Northern Schoolcraft, and Southern Houghton. It is recommended that, when possible, you avoid strenuous outdoor activities, especially those with heart disease and respiratory diseases such as asthma. Monitor for symptoms such as wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, dizziness, or burning in nose, throat, and eyes. Reduce or eliminate activities that contribute to air pollution, such as outdoor burning, and use of residential wood burning devices. Keep windows closed overnight to prevent smoke from getting indoors and, if possible, run central air conditioning with MERV-13 or higher rated filters. ...RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM NOON EDT /11 AM CDT/ TODAY TO 10 PM EDT /9 PM CDT/ THIS EVENING FOR WIND AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY FOR WESTERN UPPER MICHIGAN... * AFFECTED AREA...Fire Weather Zone 001 Keweenaw, Fire Weather Zone 002 Ontonagon, Fire Weather Zone 003 Northern Houghton, Fire Weather Zone 004 Baraga, Fire Weather Zone 005 Marquette, Fire Weather Zone 009 Gogebic, Fire Weather Zone 010 Iron, Fire Weather Zone 011 Dickinson, Fire Weather Zone 012 Menominee and Fire Weather Zone 084 Southern Houghton. * TIMING...From noon EDT /11 AM CDT/ today to 10 PM EDT /9 PM CDT/ this evening. * WINDS...Southwest 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 28 percent. * IMPACTS...Any fire that develops will catch and spread quickly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures and exceptionally dry fuels will create dangerous wildland fire conditions.
