Marine Weather Statement
Issued: 6:18 PM Jun. 21, 2025 – National Weather Service
...WATER LEVEL FLUCTUATIONS CONTINUE ON THE ST. MARY'S RIVER... Water level gauges at Point Iroquois and Southwest Pier on the St. Mary's River have completed one rise/fall cycle since 1030 AM EDT. The rise/fall amplitude at Southwest Pier was approximately 5.8 feet...with water levels starting to crest as of 200 PM EDT. At Point Iroquois the total water level change was 3.8 feet...and water levels had begun to drop once again as of 200 PM EDT. Water levels are anticipated to undergo another rise/fall cycle through approximately 600 PM EDT. Water level changes may be of similar magnitude to the first cycle...after which these waves typically start to dampen out. Water level changes below the Soo Locks have been around one-half foot so far this afternoon and that is not likely to change. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Water level fluctuations of this magnitude can impact navigation through the upper portions of the St. Mary's River...particularly for large freighters. Mariners should be aware of the rapidly rising and falling water levels...particularly for operators above the Sault locks. Be sure to monitor marine radio for information on this situation. &&
