...AIR QUALITY ALERT HAS BEEN CANCELLED... The Maine Department of Environmental Protection's Bureau of Air Quality has cancelled the Air Quality alert this weekend for particle pollution. A plume of smoke will move through the state today, but will be less dense than anticipated. Particle pollution levels may become elevated tonight after firework shows have finished. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so Maine residents can stay informed on the air quality situations. The toll free number is: 1-800-223-1196. Additionally the Maine Department of Environmental Protection has the air quality forecast available on the web at www.maine.gov/dep/air/aqforecast.

...BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 8 AM EDT THIS MORNING THROUGH THIS EVENING... * WHAT....Warm temperatures in the mid to upper 80s to lower 90s may cause people to underestimate the dangers of the cold water temperatures which are currently around 50. * WHERE...Coastal Hancock and Coastal Washington Counties. * WHEN...From 8 AM EDT this morning through this evening. * IMPACTS...The cold water temperatures can quickly cause hypothermia to anyone immersed in the waters. Anyone on boats or paddlecraft should use extreme caution to avoid this threat. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Beach Hazards Statement is issued on days when a significant number of boats and paddlecraft are expected to be out on the water and when warm air temperatures may cause people to underestimate the danger of the cold water.
