...GALE WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 1 AM EST SATURDAY... ...SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY IS CANCELLED... * WHAT...For the Gale Warning, west winds 20 to 30 kt with gusts up to 40 kt and waves 2 to 4 ft expected. * WHERE...Tidal Potomac River from Key Bridge to Smith Point VA, and Chesapeake Bay and adjoining estuaries north of Drum Point MD. * WHEN...Until 1 AM EST Saturday. * IMPACTS...Strong winds will cause hazardous waves which could capsize or damage vessels. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Strong southwest winds accompanying a squall line may bring brief gale-force gusts early this morning. This will be followed by a brief drop in winds in the mid- morning hours before winds jump back up to gale-force, but this time out of the west-northwest in the afternoon. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Mariners should alter plans to avoid these hazardous conditions. Remain in port, seek safe harbor, alter course, and/or secure the vessel for hazardous conditions. &&

...WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 10 PM EST THIS EVENING... * WHAT...West winds 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 55 mph expected. * WHERE...Washington DC, and portions of central and northern Maryland, central, northern, and western Virginia, and eastern West Virginia. * WHEN...From noon today to 10 PM EST this evening. * IMPACTS...Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...While a line of showers may bring gusty winds early in the morning, the more persistent strong winds will arrive in the afternoon. Strong winds are expected to linger into the evening, especially on hilltops and ridges. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution. Secure outdoor objects. &&
