...EXTREME COLD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 AM EST SUNDAY... ...HIGH WIND WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM EST THIS EVENING... * WHAT...For the Extreme Cold Warning, dangerously cold wind chills as low as 10 below. For the High Wind Warning, northwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts of 50 to 60 mph. * WHERE...Washington DC, and portions of central, northeast, northern, and southern Maryland, and northern Virginia. * WHEN...For the Extreme Cold Warning, until 10 AM EST Sunday. For the High Wind Warning, until 7 PM EST this evening. * IMPACTS...Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. The cold wind chills could result in hypothermia if precautions are not taken. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Wind chills are expected to remain below zero through late Sunday morning. Being outdoors for a prolonged period of time will be life-threatening. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Watch for falling debris and tree limbs. Use caution if you must drive. Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside. Keep pets indoors as much as possible.
