...HEAVY SNOW SHOWERS...

HAZARDS...An area of heavy snow showers accompanied by winds of up
to 30 MPH which can rapidly reduce visibility to less than one
half mile.

LOCATION AND MOVEMENT...At 507 AM EST, an area of heavy snow showers
was near Becket, or 15 miles southeast of Pittsfield moving east at
30 MPH.

LOCATIONS IMPACTED INCLUDE...
Pittsfield, Torrington, New Milford, Southbury, Beacon, North Adams,
Brattleboro, Great Barrington, Sherman, Pawling, Brookfield, Monroe,
Canton, Pleasant Valley, Adams, Thomaston, New Hartford, Lee,
Wappingers Falls, and Lenox.

SAFETY INFO...The snow will accumulate rapidly making it difficult
for the road crews to keep the roads clear.

Conditions can deteriorate rapidly in winter weather situations. Be
prepared for snow or ice covered roads. Slow down and allow extra
time to reach your destination.

MORNING...

* WHAT...Initial upslope snow followed by snow squalls expected.
Total snow accumulations between 3 and 5 inches with up to 6
inches along the spine of the southern Green Mountains.

* WHERE...In Massachusetts, Northern Berkshire County. In Vermont,
Bennington County.

* WHEN...Until 10 AM EST this morning.

* IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will
likely become slick and hazardous. Plan on slippery road
conditions, especially tonight during any travel for New Year's
Eve celebrations.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...An initial period of light to moderate snow
is expected overnight before an arctic cold front results in snow
squalls during the pre-dawn hours of New Year's Day. Any snow
squall can result in brief periods of whiteout conditions and
hazardous travel conditions. Use caution if traveling tonight for
any New Year's Eve celebrations.
