A Marine Weather Statement has been issued for the following areas... Atchafalaya and East Cote Blanche Bays... Coastal waters from Lower Atchafalaya River to Intracoastal City LA out 20 NM... Vermilion and West Cote Blanche Bays... Waters from Lower Atchafalaya River to Intracoastal City LA from 20 to 60 NM... At 841 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated strong thunderstorms, capable of producing winds to around 30 knots. These thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Marsh Island to near Eugene Island 129 to near Eugene Island 142, moving southwest at 15 knots. Locations impacted include... South Marsh Island 239, South Marsh Island 23, Eugene Island 105, Eugene Island 24, Eugene Island 100, Eugene Island 28, South Marsh Island 236, Eugene Island 107, Eugene Island 206, Eugene Island 129, Eugene Island 108, Eugene Island 208, Eugene Island 175, Eugene Island 63, Eugene Island 42, Eugene Island 158, South Marsh Island 249, Eugene Island 215, Eugene Island 57, and South Marsh Island 268. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Mariners can expect gusty winds to around 30 knots, locally higher waves, and lightning strikes. Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately until these storms pass. Intense lightning is occurring with these storms. If caught on the open water stay below deck if possible, keep away from ungrounded metal objects.
