...A CLUSTER OF STRONG THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE WATERS... The areas affected include... Chandeleur Sound... Coastal waters from Pascagoula Mississippi to Stake Island out 20 NM... Lake Borgne... Lake Pontchartrain and Lake Maurepas... Mississippi Sound... At 635 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated a cluster of strong thunderstorms, capable of producing winds to around 30 knots and small hail. This cluster of thunderstorms is generally located along a line extending from Lake Maurepas to near Lake Borgne to 6 nm south of Chandeleur Sound, moving northeast at 40 knots. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... This a cluster of strong thunderstorms will likely produce winds to around 30 knots, and could pose a serious hazard for boaters. A special marine warning may eventually be required when this activity reaches the nearshore waters. Boaters should consider heading for shore before these storms arrive. &&

If this low tracks closer to the waters and/or is stronger than currently expected, winds may briefly approach gale warning criteria tonight, especially across the lakes and Mississippi Sound. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, should avoid navigating in hazardous conditions. &&
