Special Weather Statement
Issued: 9:57 PM May. 26, 2026 – National Weather Service
...A STRONG THUNDERSTORM WILL IMPACT PORTIONS OF CENTRAL ST. JOHN THE
BAPTIST AND NORTHWESTERN ST. CHARLES PARISHES THROUGH 515 PM CDT
...

At 457 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm
capable of producing funnel clouds and waterspouts over Killona, or
near Hahnville, moving north at 25 mph.

HAZARD...Waterspouts and funnel clouds and winds in excess of 40
mph.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Waterspouts can easily overturn boats and create locally
hazardous waters. If a funnel cloud briefly touches down,
minor damage to outdoor objects is possible. Gusty winds
could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured
objects.

Locations impacted include...
Laplace, Reserve, Hahnville, Killona, Montz, Taft, and Edgard.

This includes the following Interstates...
Interstate 10 in Louisiana between mile markers 204 and 211.
Interstate 55 in Louisiana between mile markers 1 and 2.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.

If on or near marine areas, get out of the water and move indoors or
inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 10 miles from
the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close
enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now! Do not be
caught on the water in a thunderstorm.
