Coastal waters from Pascagoula Mississippi to Stake Island out 20 NM... * Until 700 PM CDT. * At 553 PM CDT, a cluster of severe thunderstorms capable of producing waterspouts was located near Chandeleur Sound, moving southwest at 20 knots. HAZARD...Waterspouts and wind gusts to 40 knots. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Waterspouts can quickly form and capsize boats...damage vessels and oil rigs...and create suddenly higher waves. Small craft could be damaged in briefly higher winds and suddenly higher waves. * Locations impacted include... Breton Sound and Chandeleur Sound. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Marine Weather Statement has been issued for the following areas... Breton Sound... Chandeleur Sound... Coastal Waters from Boothville LA to Southwest Pass of the Mississippi River out 20 nm... Coastal Waters from Stake Island LA to Southwest Pass of the Mississippi River from 20 to 60 nm... Coastal waters from Pascagoula Mississippi to Stake Island Louisiana out 20 to 60 NM... Coastal waters from Pascagoula Mississippi to Stake Island out 20 NM... At 551 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated a cluster of strong thunderstorms, capable of producing winds to around 30 knots and weak waterspouts. This cluster of thunderstorms is generally located 31 nm southeast of Chandeleur Sound, moving southwest at 15 knots. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Mariners can expect widespread gusty winds to around 30 knots, higher waves and dangerous lightning strikes. Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately until this activity passes. Brief, weak waterspouts are possible with this activity. Remain on alert in case warnings are issued for waterspout development. Intense lightning is occurring with these storms. If caught on the open water stay below deck if possible, keep away from ungrounded metal objects. &&
