TORNADO WATCH 302 REMAINS VALID UNTIL 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING FOR THE FOLLOWING AREAS IN KENTUCKY THIS WATCH INCLUDES 6 COUNTIES IN NORTHEAST KENTUCKY JOHNSON MARTIN IN SOUTHEAST KENTUCKY FLOYD KNOTT LETCHER PIKE THIS INCLUDES THE CITIES OF COAL RUN, ELKHORN CITY, HINDMAN, INEZ, JENKINS, PAINTSVILLE, PIKEVILLE, PIPPA PASSES, PRESTONSBURG, SOUTH WILLIAMSON, WHEELWRIGHT, AND WHITESBURG.

At 438 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from Gillem Branch to Fredville to Carbon Glow. Movement was east at 45 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... Pikeville, Paintsville, Prestonsburg, Hindman, Inez, Estill, Bath, Jenkins, Coal Run Village, Wheelwright, Fleming-Neon, Martin, Pippa Passes, Wayland, Warfield, Allen, Meta, Cody, Pilgrim, and Oaklawn Estates. ...A FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH LATE TONIGHT... * WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...The Flood Watch includes the Kentucky counties of Bath, Elliott, Estill, Menifee, Montgomery, Powell, Rowan, Johnson, Martin, Laurel, McCreary, Pulaski, Rockcastle, Wayne, Whitley, Bell, Breathitt, Clay, Floyd, Harlan, Jackson, Knott, Knox, Lee, Leslie, Letcher, Magoffin, Morgan, Owsley, Perry, Pike, and Wolfe. * WHEN...The Flood Watch is in effect through late tonight. * IMPACTS...Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low water crossings may be flooded. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Multiple periods of showers and thunderstorms containing torrential downpours are expected to impact the area this afternoon and evening. A widespread 1 to 2 inches of rainfall is anticipated across the watch area. However, localized amounts of 2 to 3 inches or more are possible in locations where thunderstorms are most persistent.
