Life-threatening cold exacerbates the danger. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Persons should delay all travel if possible. If travel is absolutely necessary, drive with extreme caution and be prepared for sudden changes in visibility. Leave plenty of room between you and the motorist ahead of you, and allow extra time to reach your destination. Avoid sudden braking or acceleration, and be especially cautious on hills or when making turns. Make sure your car is winterized and in good working order. &&

For the Extreme Cold Warning, dangerously cold wind chills as low as 20 below expected. * WHERE...All of outhern Illinois, southwest Indiana, western Kentucky, and southeast Missouri. * WHEN...For the Cold Weather Advisory, until midnight CST /1 AM EST/ tonight. For the Extreme Cold Warning, from midnight CST /1 AM EST/ tonight to 10 AM CST /11 AM EST/ Tuesday. * IMPACTS...The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 20 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.
