...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 815 PM EDT THIS EVENING FOR CENTRAL PIKE COUNTY... At 617 PM EDT, Local law enforcement reported flooding along Millard Slones Branch. Between 1.5 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. Additional light rainfall is possible in the warned area, but the heaviest rainfall has ended. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain. SOURCE...Law enforcement reported. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Pikeville, Fishtrap Lake, Phyllis, Kimper, Raccoon, Garden Village, Chloe and Shelbiana. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. In northeast Kentucky, Johnson and Martin. In south central Kentucky, Laurel, McCreary, Pulaski, Rockcastle, Wayne and Whitley. In southeast Kentucky, Bell, Breathitt, Clay, Floyd, Harlan, Jackson, Knott, Knox, Lee, Leslie, Letcher, Magoffin, Morgan, Owsley, Perry, Pike and Wolfe. * WHEN...From Thursday afternoon through Sunday morning. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Repeated rounds of showers and thunderstorms producing heavy rain are expected late this week through the first half of the weekend. Already wet soils in some areas will make those locations more susceptible to flooding, especially with additional rounds of rainfall.
