...HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM CDT THIS EVENING... * WHAT...Heat index values around 104 to 108. * WHERE...Portions of central, east central, north central, and northeast Kansas. * WHEN...Until 9 PM CDT this evening. * IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and even heat stroke. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. &&

...FLOOD WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM CDT THIS EVENING... * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is ongoing. * WHERE...Portions of central and north central Kansas, including the following counties, in central Kansas, Dickinson. In north central Kansas, Ottawa. * WHEN...Until 600 PM CDT. * IMPACTS...Numerous roads remain closed due to flooding. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 1201 PM CDT, emergency management reported heavy rain in the warned area due to thunderstorms. Flooding is already occurring. Between 2 and 6 inches of rain have fallen. - Flooding impacts will continue, but no additional rainfall is expected. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Abilene, Herington, Minneapolis, Chapman, Solomon, Enterprise, Bennington, Hope, Delphos, Tescott, Woodbine, Culver, Wells, Manchester, Carlton, Niles, Talmage, Moonlight and Ada. - This includes Interstate 70 between mile markers 267 and 289. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and request they pass this information to the National Weather Service when you can do so safely. &&

This approaches the flood of record. * WHERE...Solomon River near Niles. * WHEN...From this afternoon to early Friday afternoon. * IMPACTS...At 19.0 feet, Water begins to overflow into the low portion of a cultivated field on the right bank, upstream, adjacent to the gage site. At 23.0 feet, Rural overflow begins around the community of Niles. At 24.0 feet, Low land flooding continues along the river. At 27.0 feet, Arrowhead Road west of Niles floods. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 8:30 AM CDT Tuesday the stage was 19.0 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage late this afternoon to a crest of 29.8 feet tomorrow morning.
