At 1114 PM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Belvue to 7 miles west of Eskridge, moving east at 35 mph. HAZARD...70 mph wind gusts and nickel size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Expect considerable tree damage. Damage is likely to mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings. Locations impacted include... Topeka, Wamego, Rossville, Alma, St. Marys, Dover, Silver Lake, Auburn, Hoyt, Maple Hill, McFarland, Paxico, Belvue, Emmett, Louisville, Delia, Willard, Pauline, Keene, and Berryton. This includes the following highways... Interstate 70 between mile markers 323 and 355. Kansas Turnpike between mile markers 166 and 183. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature's leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Torrential rainfall is occurring with these storms, and may lead to flash flooding. Southeastern Clay County in north central Kansas... Southwestern Pottawatomie County in northeastern Kansas... Southern Riley County in northeastern Kansas... * Until 300 AM CDT. * At 1056 PM CDT, radar and automated rain gauges estimated between 2 and 4 inches of rainfall has fallen with another few inches of rainfall possible. Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 2 and 4 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Manhattan, Junction City, Ogden, Grandview Plaza, Chapman, Wakefield, Milford, Milford Lake and Keats. This includes Interstate 70 between mile markers 286 and 316. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. ...HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM NOON TO 9 PM CDT TUESDAY... * WHAT...Heat index values up to 107 expected. * WHERE...Portions of east central and northeast Kansas. * WHEN...From noon to 9 PM CDT Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and even heat stroke. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. In northeast Kansas, Jackson, Jefferson, Pottawatomie and Riley. * WHEN...From 7 PM CDT this evening through Tuesday morning. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Thunderstorms are expected to track across north central KS and into parts of eastern KS this evening and late tonight.
