Issued: 7:33 PM Apr. 16, 2026 – National Weather Service
...RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT CDT TONIGHT FOR WIND AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY FOR SOUTH CENTRAL NEBRASKA AND NORTH CENTRAL KANSAS... * WINDS...South 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 10 to 15 percent. * IMPACTS...Any fire that develops will spread quickly. Outdoor burning is not recommended. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Although relative humidity will steadily increase during the evening especially within counties along and east of Highway 281, this rise will be slower farther west, with some counties likely not seeing relative humidity improve above 25 percent until at least 10 PM. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior. &&
