...FLOOD WARNING NOW IN EFFECT FROM LATE TONIGHT TO EARLY SUNDAY
MORNING...

* WHAT...Minor flooding is forecast.

* WHERE...Walnut River at Arkansas City.

* WHEN...From late tonight to early Sunday morning.

* IMPACTS...At 20.0 feet, Considerable flooding of farmland is
expected. Widespread flooding of the park just upstream of the
gage site is anticipated. East Chestnut Avenue east of By-pass is
closed due to water over roadway. Greens Farm Road floods between
Highway 166 north to Dunbar Hill.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 7:15 PM CDT Thursday the stage was 17.5 feet.
- Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage
late tonight to a crest of 19.5 feet tomorrow evening. It
will then fall below flood stage early Saturday afternoon.
- Flood stage is 18.0 feet.

* WHAT...Moderate flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is
forecast.

* WHERE...Walnut River at Winfield.

* WHEN...Until early Sunday morning.

* IMPACTS...At 28.0 feet, West 14th Avenue near the fairgrounds,
floods from the river on eastward to the levee.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 8:00 PM CDT Thursday the stage was 22.2 feet.
- Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 28.5
feet tomorrow evening. It will then fall below flood stage
Saturday afternoon.
- Flood stage is 18.0 feet.

* WHAT...Minor flooding is occurring.

* WHERE...Arkansas River at Arkansas City.

* IMPACTS...At 11.0 feet, Flooding of agricultural lands can be
expected with bank overflows on west side of river. West Chestnut
Avenue west of the river floods, expect road closure.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 8:00 PM CDT Thursday the stage was 11.5 feet.
- Forecast...The river is expected to fall below flood stage
late this evening and continue falling to 5.8 feet Tuesday
evening.
- Flood stage is 11.0 feet.

...FLOOD WATCH NOW IN EFFECT FROM 9 PM CDT THIS EVENING THROUGH
FRIDAY MORNING...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be
possible.

* WHERE...Portions of South Central and Southeast Kansas, including
the following counties, in South Central Kansas, Cowley, Harper
and Sumner. In Southeast Kansas, Chautauqua and Montgomery.

* WHEN...From 9 PM CDT this evening through Friday morning.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers,
creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur
in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may be
flooded. Area creeks and streams are running high and could flood
with more heavy rain.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- Another round of showers and thunderstorms are expected
tonight, most numerous over southern Kansas. Additional heavy
rainfall may aggravate ongoing flooding concerns.


PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood
Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared
to take action should flooding develop.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
