Northwestern Porter County in northwestern Indiana... * Until 800 PM CDT. * At 554 PM CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1.5 and 2.5 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1.5 to 3 inches in 1 hour. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges. IMPACT...Rapid-onset flooding of creeks, streams, drainage ditches, streets, underpasses, low-lying areas, and other poor drainage areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Portage, Chesterton, Lake Station, Porter, Burns Harbor, Ogden Dunes and Dune Acres. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Roads and streets may be flooded. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - The potential exists for repeated rounds of showers and thunderstorms developing along a stalled surface front. Localized rainfall rates may exceed 2 inches per hour over portions of northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana late this evening through tonight.
