At 711 AM CST, a cold front was located along a line extending from
near Kirkland to Unionville. Movement was southeast at 35 mph.  Snow
showers along this front have led to wet roadways that are rapidly
freezing.

HAZARD...Rapidly dropping temperatures and freezing surfaces.

IMPACTS...Ice covered surfaces including roadways, bridges,
overpasses, and sidewalks.

Locations impacted include...
Freeport, Sterling, Kewanee, Rock Falls, Princeton, Morrison,
Galena, Mount Carroll, Hennepin, Spring Valley, Fulton, Savanna,
Lena, Henry, Prophetstown, Stockton, DePue, Erie, and Lanark.

This includes the following highways...
Interstate 80 in Illinois between mile markers 27 and 72.
Interstate 88 between mile markers 18 and 44.
Interstate 180 between mile markers 1 and 13.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A rapid drop in temperatures will lead to the rapid formation of
black ice on area roadways. Black ice is nearly impossible to see and
roadways may appear wet. Please use extreme caution, especially on
bridges, overpasses and around curves. Allow plenty of stopping
distance and avoid braking suddenly.

Conditions can deteriorate rapidly in winter weather situations. Be
prepared for snow or ice covered roads. Slow down and allow extra
time when traveling.

...Gusty Winds and Snow Showers are Expected this Morning...

Gusty winds behind a cold front are expected this morning.
Sustained winds of 15 to 25 mph and gusts of 35 to 40 mph are
expected. An errant gust to 45 mph is also possible. Drivers of
vans, campers, trailers, and other high profile vehicles should be
extra cautious, especially on east-west roads. Be sure to secure
outdoor items as well. Winds this afternoon will be lower.

Snow showers are also possible north and east of a line from
Manchester, Iowa to Cambridge, Illinois. Brief reduced
visibilties of 1 to 2 miles and isolated slick spots are possible
in the most intense showers this morning. No snow accumulation is
expected at this time.
