...A SHARP COLD FRONT RACING DOWN LAKE MICHIGAN... The areas affected include... Nearshore Waters from Winthrop Harbor to Calumet Harbor... Nearshore Waters from Calumet Harbor to Burns Harbor... Open Waters from Winthrop Harbor to Michigan City out to Mid Lake... At 930 AM CDT, NWS meteorologists were tracking a cold front racing down the Lake Michigan shoreline. The front will race through Lake Forest, Evanston, Chicago, and Gary over the next few hours. As the front passes, an abrupt wind shift from west to northeasterly accompanied by wind gusts of 30 to 35 kt will occur. Waukegan Airport measured a 34 kt wind gust as the front passed through. Locations impacted include... Harrison-Dever Crib, Burnham Harbor, Hammond Marina, Wilmette Harbor, Jackson Park Harbor, 31st Street Harbor, Monroe Harbor, Belmont Harbor, Calumet Harbor, Marina Shores at Dune Harbor, 59th Street Marina, and Indiana Harbor. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Mariners can expect an abrupt wind shift with gusty winds as well as quickly building waves as the front passes through.
