At 1112 AM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from near Oak Grove to near Alpha to near Knoxville. Movement was east at 45 mph. HAZARD...Winds in excess of 40 mph and torrential rainfall leading to localized flooding. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could cause minor tree limb damage and blow around unsecured objects. Slowing or redirecting of traffic due to ponding or flowing water. Closure of waterfront access due to flooding. Locations impacted include... Moline, Rock Island, Kewanee, Aledo, Cambridge, Geneseo, Milan, Colona, Coal Valley, Galva, Burgess, Orion, Andalusia, Atkinson, Viola, Annawan, Woodhull, Millersburg, Matherville, and Alpha. This includes the following highways... Interstate 80 in Illinois between mile markers 10 and 35. Interstate 74 in Illinois between mile markers 12 and 33. Interstate 280 near mile marker 14. Rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches per hour are possible with the strongest storms. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. ...FLOOD WATCH NOW IN EFFECT FROM THIS EVENING THROUGH FRIDAY AFTERNOON... * WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...Portions of Illinois, including the following areas, Bureau, Carroll, Henry IL, Putnam, Rock Island and Whiteside and east central Iowa, including the following areas, Benton, Cedar, Clinton, Iowa, Jackson, Johnson, Jones, Linn, Muscatine and Scott. * WHEN...From this evening through Friday afternoon. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - A large system of thunderstorms with heavy rainfall moving across the area this morning and midday, followed by more rounds of storms tonight into Friday morning may produce several inches of rainfall and eventual flooding problems.
