...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM CDT THIS EVENING
FOR SOUTHEASTERN COOK AND CENTRAL WILL COUNTIES...

At 405 PM CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
generally decreasing rainfall rates over the last half hour across
the area. Multiple public reports of roadway flooding have been
received due to earlier rainfall. Additional slow-moving
thunderstorms are developing and moving into the area with rainfall
rates up to 2 inches per hour.  Additional rainfall may worsen
flooding or cause water to stop receding. Up to 3.5 inches of rain
have fallen so far.

HAZARD...Flash flooding.

SOURCE...Trained spotters.

IMPACT...Rapid-onset flooding of creeks, streams, drainage
ditches, streets, underpasses, low-lying areas, and
other poor drainage areas.

Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Chicago, Hammond, Orland Park, Tinley Park, Oak Lawn, Calumet
City, Chicago Heights, Roseland, Englewood, South Shore, Lansing,
Oak Forest, Harvey, New Lenox, Homer Glen, Blue Island, Munster,
Dolton, Park Forest and Homewood.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Flash Flood Warning means rapid-onset flooding is imminent or may
already be occurring. Persons along creeks, drainage ditches, and
other waterways should take immediate precautions to protect life
and property.

* IMPACTS...Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.
Roads and streets may be flooded.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 357 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms with rates up to 3 inches per hour. Heaviest
rainfall was located across northwestern and northern
Chicago. Up to 2 inches of rain has fallen near Elmwood Park
and Rogers Park area of Chicago.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Chicago, Cicero, Evanston, Skokie, Des Plaines, Berwyn, Oak
Park, Glenview, Ohare Airport, Park Ridge, Niles, Austin,
Irving Park, South Lawndale, West Town, West Ridge, Lake

areas, Central Cook, DuPage, Eastern Will, Northern Cook, Northern
Will, Southern Cook and Southern Will and northwest Indiana,
including the following area, Lake IN.

* WHEN...Through this evening.

* IMPACTS...Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding
may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Underpasses may be
flooded. Roads and streets may be flooded.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- Showers and thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and
evening. Atmospheric conditions are favorable for rainfall
rates up to 1-2 inches per hour. In addition to increased
runoff potential due to urban land cover in the Chicago
Metropolitan Area, near surface soil moisture in some areas
is elevated due to recent rainfall.
