...A GUSTY THUNDERSTORM APPROACHING THE WATERS... The areas affected include... Nearshore Waters from Winthrop Harbor to Northerly Island... Open Waters from Winthrop Harbor to Michigan City out to Mid Lake... At 535 PM CDT, NWS meteorologists were tracking a thunderstorm and associated outflow boundary stretching from McHenry to Elgin, moving east at about 25 knots. Westerly wind gusts of 25 to 30 knots are expected as the thunderstorm and outflow boundary move over the nearshore and open waters of Lake Michigan. The winds should reach the shoreline of Lake Michigan in approximately 1 hour. It is possible that the winds may intensify, requiring a Special Marine Warning for a portion of the Marine Weather Statement area. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Mariners can expect gusty winds to around 30 knots, locally higher waves, and lightning strikes. Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately until this storm passes. &&
