Winter Weather Advisory
Issued: 7:42 PM Jan. 30, 2026 – National Weather Service
...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT CST
TONIGHT...
...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 6 AM TO 4 PM CST
SATURDAY...

* WHAT...For the Winter Storm Warning through this evening, heavy
lake effect snow. Snow accumulations locally in excess of 6
inches, particularly near the lake. For the Winter Weather
Advisory on Saturday, another round of lake effect snow, with
additional localized accumulations in excess of 3 inches possible.

* WHERE...Central Cook and Southern Cook Counties.

* WHEN...For the Winter Storm Warning, until midnight CST tonight.
For the Winter Weather Advisory, from 6 AM to 4 PM CST Saturday.

* IMPACTS...Travel will remain hazardous at times into this evening,
particularly near the lake. Additional localized adverse impacts
to travel are likely at times on Saturday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Accumulating lake effect snow will continue
into this evening, and will fall locally at 1 to 2 inch per hour
rates at times, making for hazardous travel conditions. This will
particularly be the case for areas in close proximity to the lake.
This intense band of lake effect snow is expected to shift
eastward into northwestern Indiana late this evening and
overnight, thus resulting in a several hour break in accumulating
snow across Cook county overnight. However, the band is expected
to shift back westward Saturday morning, and is expected to impact
parts of northeastern Illinois on Saturday. While the footprint of
accumulating snow is likely to be lower on Saturday, localized
additional accumulations and associated travel impacts are
expected.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

During lake effect snow, the weather can vary from near white out
conditions in very heavy snow to dry weather just a few miles away.
Be prepared for rapid changes in weather, visibility, and road
conditions.

Monitor the latest forecasts for updates on this situation.
