...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 245 PM CDT THIS
AFTERNOON FOR EAST CENTRAL COOK AND SOUTHEASTERN DUPAGE COUNTIES...

At 210 PM CDT, local law enforcement reported flash flooding ongoing
from earlier heavy rainfall across the warned area. Between 2 and
5.5 inches of rain have fallen. While the heaviest rainfall has
subsided, various roads and underpasses remain flooded.

HAZARD...Flash flooding.

SOURCE...Law enforcement.

IMPACT...Rapid-onset flooding of creeks, streams, drainage
ditches, streets, underpasses, low-lying areas, and
other poor drainage areas.

Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Chicago, Downers Grove, Midway Airport, Chicago Lawn, Englewood,
Bridgeport, South Shore, Burbank, Hinsdale, La Grange, Justice,
Summit, Burr Ridge, Ashburn, Brighton Park, New City, Hyde Park,
Westmont, Darien and Bridgeview.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Flash Flood Warning means rapid-onset flooding is imminent or may
already be occurring. Persons along creeks, drainage ditches, and
other waterways should take immediate precautions to protect life
and property.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

* WHERE...Southern Cook and Northeastern Will Counties

* WHEN...Until 345 PM CDT.

* IMPACTS...Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding
may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Underpasses may be
flooded. Roads and streets may be flooded.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 149 PM CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges
indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Up to 2 inches of
rain have fallen.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Chicago, Joliet, Hammond, Bolingbrook, Orland Park, Tinley
Park, Oak Lawn, Romeoville, Calumet City, Chicago Heights,
Roseland, Lansing, Oak Forest, Harvey, Lockport, New Lenox,
Homer Glen, Blue Island, Dolton and Park Forest.

* WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.

* WHERE...Portions of northeast Illinois, including the following
areas, Central Cook, DuPage, Eastern Will, Grundy, Kane, Kendall,
Northern Cook, Northern Will, Southern Cook and Southern Will and
northwest Indiana, including the following area, Lake IN.

* WHEN...Until 6 PM CDT this evening.

* IMPACTS...Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks.
Underpasses may be flooded. Roads and streets may be flooded.
Extensive street flooding possible.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- Slow moving showers and thunderstorms with torrential
rainfall will produce locally very heavy rainfall today.
Rainfall amounts of 2 to 5 inches or more will be possible on
a localized basis. This will lead to instances of flash
flooding into this afternoon.
