The following message is transmitted at the request of the Forest Service Sawtooth Avalanche Center. ...The Forest Service Sawtooth Avalanche Center in Ketchum Idaho has issued a BACKCOUNTRY AVALANCHE WARNING... * WHAT...The avalanche danger is HIGH. Heavy snowfall and wind will produce widespread avalanching. * WHERE...The southern Salmon River, Sawtooth, White Cloud, Smoky, Soldier, Boulder, and Pioneer Mountains, including the mountains near Banner Summit, Stanley, Smiley Creek, Atlanta, Galena Summit, Trail Creek Summit, and Dollarhide Summit. * WHEN...In effect from Sun 06:45 MST to Mon 07:00 MST. * IMPACTS...Natural and human-triggered avalanches large enough to bury people, snap trees, and destroy structures will occur. Avalanches may strike roadways, trails, and buildings in the valley bottom. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Very dangerous avalanche conditions exist. Travel in avalanche terrain is not recommended. Stay off and out from below steep slopes-slopes steeper than about 30 degrees. Avalanches may be triggered remotely-from flat terrain above, below, and to the sides of steep slopes. Consult WWW.SAWTOOTHAVALANCHE.COM or WWW.AVALANCHE.ORG for more detailed information.
