...FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING... * WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...Portions of Illinois, including the following areas, Hancock, Henderson, McDonough, Mercer and Warren, southeast Iowa, including the following areas, Des Moines, Henry IA, Jefferson, Keokuk, Lee, Louisa, Van Buren and Washington, and northeast Missouri, including the following areas, Clark and Scotland. * WHEN...Through Saturday morning. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Rounds of rain with embedded thunderstorms will occur across the area through Saturday morning with peak hourly rates between 1 to 2 inches from the strongest storms. Rainfall totals will vary considerably across the watch area. The hardest hit areas north of Highway 34 could receive 5 to 8 inches of rainfall with isolated higher amounts possible. Flash flooding is a risk with an increased probability of river and creek flooding. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... ...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 AM CDT THIS MORNING FOR NORTHEASTERN DES MOINES, LOUISA, MERCER, NORTHEASTERN HENDERSON AND NORTHERN WARREN COUNTIES... At 846 AM CDT, local law enforcement reported flash flooding caused by heavy rain across the warned area. Between 3 and 6 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. 911 Dispatch reported that several secondary roads were closed in Louisa County due to water over the roads. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Law enforcement reported. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Aledo, Wapello, Columbus Junction, Burgess, Viola, Morning Sun, New Windsor, Millersburg, Matherville, New Boston, Sherrard, Keithsburg, Grandview, Reynolds, Eliza, Joy, Columbus City, Letts, Little York and Seaton. This includes the following State Parks... Big River State Forest. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
