...FLOOD ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 1030 AM HST THIS MORNING FOR THE ISLAND OF HAWAII IN HAWAII COUNTY... * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues. * WHERE...The island of Hawaii in Hawaii County. * WHEN...Until 1030 AM HST. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding on roads, poor drainage areas, and in streams. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 711 AM HST, radar indicated heavy rain over windward and southeast Big Island with the heaviest rain over the Kau and Hamakua districts. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 1.5 inches per hour. Additional heavy showers are expected to move in this morning. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Hilo, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Kapaau, Honokaa, Volcano, Glenwood, Mountain View, Hawaiian Acres, Keaau, Papaikou, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Pepeekeo, Honomu, Orchidlands Estates, Hakalau, Ninole, Laupahoehoe, Wood Valley and Pahoa. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding. Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on foot. Turn around, don't drown. && This advisory may need to be extended beyond 1030 AM HST if flooding; persists.
