The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a * Flash Flood Warning for... The island of Oahu in Honolulu County * Until 115 PM HST. * At 1021 AM HST, emergency management reported water flowing over portions of Kamehameha Highway on the North Shore between Turtle Bay and Sharks's Cove, making passage through the area dangerous. Moderate to locally heavy rain continues to develop and move over the island with the majority occurring over the western half of the island. Rain rates range from 0.5 to 2 inches per hour. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. Additional showers with embedded heavier rain are expected to move over the island for the next few hours, especially the western half. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain. SOURCE...Emergency management reported. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... the entire island of Oahu. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Urban areas may receive more significant flooding and property damage due to rapid runoff. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms will continue into this afternoon as deep tropical moisture is drawn northward over the area. Training of heavy showers containing intense rain rates is possible. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
