...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 945 PM EDT THIS EVENING FOR CENTRAL COBB, DEKALB, NORTHERN DOUGLAS, CENTRAL FULTON AND WEST CENTRAL GWINNETT COUNTIES... At 533 PM EDT, Broadcast media reported thunderstorms producing heavy rain in Flooding was reported on Jesse Hill Jr Dr NE near the intesection with Auburn Ave NE. Between 1.5 and 2.5 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is already occurring. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Broadcast media reported. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Atlanta, Marietta, Douglasville, Decatur, Peachtree Corners, City of South Fulton, Sandy Springs, Roswell, Johns Creek, Alpharetta, Smyrna, Dunwoody, East Point, Duluth, College Park, Chamblee, Norcross, Doraville, Clarkston and Austell. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. ...FLOOD WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL LATE TONIGHT... * WHAT...Minor flooding is forecast. * WHERE...Suwanee Creek at Suwanee. * WHEN...Until late tonight. * IMPACTS...At 9.0 feet, Minor flooding expands along the creek upstream and downstream from the gage at U S Highway 23 or Buford Highway. Most of the Suwanee Creek Greenway and trails are flooded from the Suwanee Creek Park to George Pierce Park. The minor flooding will also begin to affect portions of the playground area behind the Suwanee Elementary School. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 11:15 AM EDT Friday the stage was 7.0 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage this afternoon to a crest of 9.0 feet this evening. ...FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT THROUGH THIS EVENING... * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...Portions of north central, northeast, and northwest Georgia, including the following areas, in north central Georgia, Barrow, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Gwinnett, North Fulton, Rockdale, South Fulton and Walton. In northeast Georgia, Clarke, Jackson, Madison, Oconee and Oglethorpe. In northwest Georgia, Carroll, Haralson and Paulding. * WHEN...Through this evening. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Repeated rounds of rainfall along a stalled frontal boundary are likely through at least Friday Night. An anomalously moist environment over Georgia will support high rain rates and increased chances for flash flooding. Widespread rainfall of 1 to 3 inches will be possible with locally higher amounts of 5 inches or more.
