...BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM PST THIS EVENING... * WHAT...Dangerous rip currents and breaking waves due to elevated surf expected. * WHERE...Catalina and Santa Barbara Islands, Ventura County Beaches, Malibu Coast and Los Angeles County Beaches. * WHEN...Until 9 PM PST this evening. * IMPACTS...There is an increased risk of ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Waves can wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats nearshore. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Surf heights of 3 to 6 feet with local sets to 7 feet are expected. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Remain out of the water due to hazardous swimming conditions, or stay near occupied lifeguard towers. Rock jetties can be deadly in such conditions, stay off the rocks. &&

...HAZARDOUS SEAS FROM GUSTY NORTHEAST WINDS AROUND CATALINA AND THE CHANNEL ISLANDS THROUGH AT LEAST SATURDAY... Gusty northeast winds and choppy hazardous seas will affect the coastal waters southeast of Point Conception. These winds will especially affect nearshore areas from Ventura to Santa Monica, including Santa Cruz and Anacapa Islands. These winds also move through the San Pedro Channel and impact most of the unprotected front side of Catalina Island, including Avalon and Two Harbors. These winds will peak in the evening through morning hours. These conditions have a history of vessel damage and loss of life. Mariners should avoid these areas, or remain in safe harbor until conditions improve. Avalon harbor should NOT be considered safe harbor during this event.
