...BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM LATE TONIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY AFTERNOON... * WHAT...Dangerous rip currents and breaking waves due to elevated surf expected. Minor coastal overflows possible due to abnormally high tides between 6.7 and 7.5 feet and gusty southerly winds. * WHERE...Catalina and Santa Barbara Islands, Santa Barbara County Southwestern Coast, Santa Barbara County Southeastern Coast, Ventura County Beaches, Malibu Coast and Los Angeles County Beaches. * WHEN...From late tonight through Sunday afternoon. * IMPACTS...Pooling of sea water is possible around high tide at beach and harbor areas that is uncommon with normal tidal ranges. Enhanced beach erosion is also possible. No significant damage is expected. There is an increased risk of ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Waves can wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats nearshore. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Peak high tides are expected between 5 am and 9 am on New Years Day, shifting to between 7 am and 11 am by Sunday. There is a moderate chance for Coastal Flood Advisories to be issued for this weekend focused on west facing beaches due to an incoming west swell on top of high tides. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Remain out of the water due to hazardous swimming conditions, or stay near occupied lifeguard towers. Rock jetties can be deadly in such conditions, stay off the rocks. &&

...CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS LATE NEW YEARS EVE THROUGH NEW YEARS DAY... A moist and unstable air mass will bring a chance of thunderstorms to the coastal waters late December 31, 2025 through January 1, 2026, mainly for the waters south of Point Conception including the immediate coasts of Orange, Los Angeles, Ventura, and southern Santa Barbara counties. There is also low chance for a thunderstorm to develop across the waters adjacent to the Central Coast during the same time frame, and the Marine Weather Statement (MWS) may need to be expanded to the waters further north. Any thunderstorm that forms will be capable of producing locally gale force winds and rough seas, dangerous lightning, heavy rainfall with reduced visibility, and waterspouts.

Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may be flooded. Debris flow are possible near recent burn scars. There is a high risk of rock and mudslides in the canyons. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - A strong winter storm will bring moderate to heavy rainfall to the area Wednesday night and Thursday.
