...BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH SUNDAY AFTERNOON... * WHAT...Dangerous rip currents and breaking waves due to elevated surf expected. Minor coastal overflows possible due to abnormally high tides between 6.7 and 7.5 feet and gusty southerly winds. * WHERE...Los Angeles, Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo County beaches. * WHEN...Through Sunday afternoon. * IMPACTS...Pooling of sea water is possible around high tide at beach and harbor areas that is uncommon with normal tidal ranges. Enhanced beach erosion is also possible. No significant damage is expected. There is an increased risk of ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Waves can wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats nearshore. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Peak high tides are expected between 5 am and 9 am today, shifting to between 7 am and 11 am by Sunday. There is a moderate chance for Coastal Flood Advisories and/or High Surf Advisories to be issued for this weekend as another storm system may generate strong winds accompanied by a larger swell. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Remain out of the water due to hazardous swimming conditions, or stay near occupied lifeguard towers. ...FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 AM PST THIS MORNING... * WHAT...Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...A portion of southwest California, including the following county, Ventura. * WHEN...Until 700 AM PST. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Rises in small streams and normally dry arroyos. Ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 108 AM PST, Doppler radar indicated moderate to heavy rain falling across southern and central Ventura County. This will cause urban and small stream flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Oxnard, Ventura, Camarillo, Ojai, Santa Paula, Point Mugu State Park, and La Conchita. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. There is a high risk of rock and mudslides in the canyons. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - A strong winter storm will bring moderate to heavy rainfall to the area Wednesday night and Thursday. ...CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS LATE NEW YEARS EVE THROUGH NEW YEARS DAY... A moist and unstable air mass will bring a chance of thunderstorms to the coastal waters late December 31, 2025 through January 1, 2026, including the immediate coasts of Orange, Los Angeles, Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo counties. Any thunderstorm that forms will be capable of producing locally gale force winds and rough seas, dangerous lightning, heavy rainfall with reduced visibility, and waterspouts.
