...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 AM PST FRIDAY...

* WHAT...Strong winds and heavy snow expected. South winds ease this
morning, then increase again tonight into Thursday, at 25 to 30
mph with gusts to 50 mph. Meanwhile, snow levels will lower to
5000 ft this morning, then locally down to 3500 ft tonight through
Friday morning. Additional snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches
above 3500 ft. Above 4500 feet, 1 to 3 feet of snow expected.

* WHERE...South Central Siskiyou County, including Mt Shasta City
and Black Butte Pass, Snowman Summit on highway 89 and Shasta Ski
Park.

* WHEN...Until 10 AM PST Friday.

* IMPACTS...Travel may be very difficult to impossible. The
hazardous conditions could impact the Wednesday morning and
evening commutes. Very strong winds could cause extensive tree
damage. Areas of power outages are expected through the event.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The heaviest snow is expected later tonight
through Thursday night.

...AVALANCHE WARNING IN EFFECT THROUGH FRIDAY AFTERNOON...

The Mount Shasta Avalanche Center has issued a BACKCOUNTRY
AVALANCHE WARNING for the following areas:
NWS Medford OR - CAZ082 (South Central Siskiyou County).

* WHAT...AVALANCHE WARNING. The Forest Service Mount Shasta
Avalanche Center has issued an avalanche warning for Mount
Shasta area backcountry of Northern California. Two weather
systems will impact the area this week. The first of two waves
will impact the area through Wednesday. The second wave arrives
late Wednesday evening and continues through Friday. Very
dangerous avalanche conditions are likely, especially during
peak intensity late Wednesday night through Friday.

* WHERE...Avalanche terrain of Mount Shasta, Castle Lake, the Eddy
Mountains, and Ash Creek Butte area east of Mount Shasta. Large
avalanche run out zones on Mount Shasta, like Avalanche Gulch
and the Old Ski Bowl should be avoided until storm snow has time
to settle. Both these areas are easily accessed from the Bunny
Flat trailhead, where many holiday visitors will enjoy the snow.
Know where you are going if traveling in the backcountry.

* WHEN...In effect now through 4 PM PST Friday afternoon.

* IMPACTS...Up to 5 feet of snow in terrain above 6000 feet today
through Friday afternoon. Wind gusts in excess of 60 mph. Expect
fluctuating snow levels.

* PRECAUTIONARY / PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...Very dangerous avalanche
conditions. Travel in, near, or below avalanche terrain is not
recommended. Avalanches may run long distances and can run into
mature forests, valley floors, or flat terrain. Check the
avalanche forecast for daily details.
