Pinal County in southeastern Arizona... * Until 230 PM MST. * At 146 PM MST, a severe thunderstorm was located 9 miles south of Apache Lake, or 12 miles northwest of Superior, moving northeast at 10 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and half dollar size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees. * Locations impacted include... Apache Lake. This includes AZ Route 188 near mile marker 228. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Large hail, damaging wind, and continuous cloud to ground lightning are occurring with this storm. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature's leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, and may lead to flash flooding. ...FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM MST THIS EVENING... * WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...A portion of south central Arizona, including the following areas, Apache Junction/Gold Canyon, Dripping Springs, Fountain Hills/East Mesa, Globe/Miami, Mazatzal Mountains, New River Mesa, Northwest Pinal County, Pinal/Superstition Mountains, Rio Verde/Salt River, San Carlos, Southeast Gila County, Superior and Tonto Basin. * WHEN...Until 11 PM MST this evening. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may be flooded. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Increasing moisture ahead of an area of low pressure will promote scattered thunderstorm activity capable of producing heavy rainfall through this evening. ...A LINE OF STRONG THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS GILA...MARICOPA AND PINAL COUNTIES... At 1016 AM MST, radar indicated several strong to severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Pipeline Canyon Trailhead to Sky Harbor Airport to Blackwater. Additional strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to develop throughout the rest of the morning and afternoon. Movement was northeast at 25 mph. Locations impacted include... Phoenix, Mesa, Chandler, Glendale, Scottsdale, Gilbert, Tempe, Peoria, Surprise, Avondale, Goodyear, Buckeye, Casa Grande, Apache Junction, El Mirage, Florence, Fountain Hills, Paradise Valley, Coolidge, and Globe. This includes the following highways... AZ Interstate 10 between mile markers 94 and 204. AZ Interstate 17 between mile markers 195 and 241. AZ Interstate 8 between mile markers 122 and 178. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms, and may cause localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.
