Special Weather Statement
Issued: 4:15 PM Apr. 9, 2026 – National Weather Service
...ANOTHER ROUND OF SNOW AND RAIN THURSDAY... Gusty winds Thursday from St. Lawrence Island through the Bering Strait coincide with a front that brings 1 to 2 inches of snow to the area through Thursday. Southerly wind gusts through the Bering Strait up to 60 mph are possible, affecting Wales and Diomede most strongly. Gusts up to 45 mph are possible across St. Lawrence Island. Weaker gusts are expected further east on the Seward Peninsula for Teller, Brevig Mission, and Shishmaref. Another round of precipitation is expected to begin Friday morning, bringing another inch or so of snow. Warmer temperatures will allow some of the precipitation to fall as rain and melting snow which may freeze on some colder surfaces. Isolated pockets of light freezing precipitation may be possible, but ice accumulations are expected to be limited.
