...RESUSPENDED ASH FROM KATMAI-NOVARUPTA EXPECTED OVER KODIAK
ISLAND THROUGH LATE THIS EVENING...

Strong northwesterly winds with gusts up to 40 mph across
Shelikof Strait and the waters around Kodiak Island are expected
today through this evening. These winds have resuspended ash from
the 1912 Katmai-Novarupta eruption aloft, causing haze and
potentially trace amounts of ash accumulation at the surface. The
communities of Karluk, Akhiok, and Larson Bay are most likely to
be affected.

Those with respiratory ailments in these areas are encouraged to
avoid or reduce outdoor activity to avoid inhaling the ash. Winds
are expected to decrease and become northerly tonight, which
should keep resuspended ash offshore of Kodiak.
