...FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM TUESDAY MORNING THROUGH FRIDAY MORNING... * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible. * WHERE...The following areas, Central Susitna Valley, Lower Matanuska Valley, Southern Susitna Valley and Western Susitna Valley. This includes the cities of Palmer, Wasilla, Big Lake, Skwentna, Willow, Talkeetna, Trapper Creek, And Petersville. * WHEN...From Tuesday morning through Friday morning. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Significant rainfall is possible in the Susitna Valley Monday August 3 through Wednesday August 5. There is uncertainty with expected precipitation amounts, but potential 48-hr totals range from 3 to 5 inches in the upper Yentna, Chulitna and Susitna Basins. This will be especially impactful to erosion-prone areas (Talkeetna) and low-lying or poor- drainage areas throughout the rest of the Susitna Valley. ...HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM AKDT SATURDAY... * WHAT...Hot temperatures as high as 74 to 82. * WHERE...Central Susitna Valley, Lower Matanuska Valley, Southern Susitna Valley, and Western Susitna Valley. * WHEN...Until 9 PM AKDT Saturday. * IMPACTS...Individuals not accustomed to these unusually hot temperatures for this region may experience heat related illnesses. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Temperatures across the Mat-Su Valleys will again climb well into the 70s for daytime highs Friday and Saturday. The warmest temperatures will likely be around Butte and Skwentna and from Big Lake to Willow. Overnight lows will drop into the upper 40s to lower 50s, allowing for a brief respite from the very warm temperatures. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Drink plenty of fluids and check up on elderly and vulnerable relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances as vehicle interiors can reach extreme temperatures in as little as 10 minutes. Take extra precautions when working in the sun. Wear sunscreen and lightweight, loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Close curtains during the daytime to reduce sun insolation into the home and open windows at night to allow the home to cool off.
