...FLOOD ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 345 PM AKDT THURSDAY... * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues. * WHERE...Ward Lake, including the Ward Lake Recreational Area. * WHEN...Until 345 PM AKDT Thursday. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas near Ward Lake. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 356 PM AKDT, the dam operator reported lake levels near 253 ft. Between 3 and 5 inches of rain have fallen with additional rainfall amounts of 0.25 to 1 inch possible through Wednesday night. - For Lake Connell Dam: At 3:17pm the stage was 253 feet. Flood Stage is 252 feet. Impacts: At 251 feet: Water will begin to approach low lying areas of trails and picnic areas around Ward Lake. At 252 feet: 2 feet of water will be going over the emergency spillway which will produce minor flooding of areas around the Ward Lake recreation area with trails and Last Chance campground being inundated. ...HEAVY RAIN ONGOING FOR THE PANHANDLE TODAY... An atmospheric river will continue to push into the southern panhandle through Wednesday, with moderate to heavy precipitation ongoing and is expected to continue. This moderate strength atmospheric river will have its strongest impacts in the southeast panhandle around Ketchikan and Annette Island. Around 2 to 5 inches of rain has fallen since Wednesday morning across the area, with additional rainfall totals between 2 and 3 inches expected for the southern panhandle and 1 to 2 inches for the rest of the central and northern panhandle through Wednesday night. Heaviest rain rates during this event will be between 0.10 and 0.15 inches per hour extending from the southern panhandle up through Skagway, with heaviest rain rates expected near Ketchikan up to 0.4 inches per hour at times. The heaviest rain is expected through the day Wednesday but some parts of the southern panhandle may see moderate to heavy rain lasting into Wednesday night.
