Marine Weather Statement
Issued: 10:00 PM Feb. 17, 2026 – National Weather Service
...EXTREME VESSEL ICING POSSIBLE FROM AUGUSTINE SOUTH THROUGH SHELIKOF STRAIT THURSDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT... Northwesterly storm-force winds with hurricane-force gusts in combination with frigid Arctic air will likely lead to extreme vessel icing at rates of 4 cm per hour or greater. The greatest chance for extreme vessel icing in Shelikof Strait is along the immediate coast of the Alaska Peninsula. Winds diminish on Saturday which should cause icing rates to decrease through Saturday. Operating a vessel in heavy to extreme freezing spray is hazardous. Freezing spray may render mechanical and electronic components inoperable. Rapid ice accretion on decks and superstructures may result in catastrophic loss of stability.
