Marine Weather Statement
Issued: 9:10 PM Mar. 6, 2026 – National Weather Service
...A STRONG COLD FRONT IMPACTS THE REGION SATURDAY AFTERNOON...

Saturday afternoon, a storm force system will quickly move east
across the gulf, bringing a strong cold front with it. Mariners
operating along the coast and inner channels should expect
southerly winds of moderate to strong breezes to rapidly shift to
the west as the front moves over, reaching gale to strong gale
force conditions. Expect this frontal passage near 3 pm to 6 pm
Saturday afternoon, with gusty 35 to 45 knot westerly winds moving
through the inner channels Saturday evening. This will be a quick
moving front, and peak wind gusts are expected to rapidly
diminish overnight.

There is potential to see a narrow band of storm force conditions
along the front. However, there is high uncertainty where this
band will move into the coast. Mariners should make ready for
strong westerly winds and elevated seas reaching the coast by
Saturday afternoon.

Special Weather Statement
Issued: 12:37 PM Mar. 6, 2026 – National Weather Service
...GALE FORCE FRONT FRIDAY FOLLOWED BY A COOL DOWN AND SNOW
SHOWERS OVER THE WEEKEND...

After the waves of snow which have been moving through SE AK the
past few weeks, warming temperatures are bringing a changeover to
rain for the area. Snow levels will reach between 2k to 4k feet on
Friday across the Icy Strait Corridor, and climb above 7k feet for
the southern panhandle. A gale force front moving through the area
Friday will bring with it widespread rainfall of between 0.5 to
1.5 inches, although no flooding is expected. However ponding of
water in low lying or poor drainage areas due to recent snow is
likely.

Active weather will then continue on Saturday as a compact low
pressure system starts to make its way into the northern gulf.
This low will bring southwesterly strong gale force winds into the
southern gulf, eventually pushing into the central and southern
panhandle. This will bring windy conditions inland as well, with
the strongest winds along the gulf coast.

A cool down occurs over the weekend, with another wave of
moisture racing across the Gulf and into the panhandle on
Saturday. By Saturday night, snow showers will be in abundance
throughout the region, and will continue into early next week,
resulting in variable snow accumulations.
