Special Weather Statement

...SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW FOR THE ALASKA PENINSULA FRIDAY AND SATURDAY... A Bering Sea and North Pacific low will combine on Friday and will bring snow along with strong northerly winds and cooler temperatures to the Alaska Peninsula. An initial round of rain will change over to snow as a surge of cold air across the Bering Sea reaches the Alaska Peninsula Friday afternoon. Between 4 and 12 inches of snow are forecast between Friday afternoon and Saturday evening, when snow is expected to taper off across the region. There is still significant uncertainty in snow amounts, especially north of Port Heiden, where the timing of precipitation and when it falls as rain versus snow will determine the total snow accumulation. Blowing snow may reduce visibility below one mile at times, which is likely to make travel difficult. Stay tuned for forecast updates.
Marine Weather Statement
Issued: 11:30 PM Dec. 24, 2025 – National Weather Service
...EXTREME VESSEL ICING POSSIBLE FROM EAST OF SAINT MATTHEW ISLAND TO BRISTOL BAY THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY AFTERNOON... Northeasterly winds in combination with frigid Arctic air will likely lead to extreme vessel icing at rates of 4 cm per hour or greater. Extreme freezing spray is likely from east of Saint Matthew Island to Cape Newenham. Extreme freezing spray is possible further south in Bristol Bay. Winds diminish on Monday, which should cause icing rates to decrease by Monday afternoon. Operating a vessel in heavy to extreme freezing spray is hazardous. Freezing spray may render mechanical and electronic components inoperable. Rapid ice accretion on decks and superstructures may result in catastrophic loss of stability.
